Ingredients

1 cup boiled chickpeas
1 cup boiled kidney beans (rajma)
¼ cup finely chopped onions
¼ cup finely chopped deseeded tomato pieces
¼ cup finely chopped lettuce
2 tablespoons finely chopped coriander leaves
¼ cup chopped cucumber
1 teaspoon finely chopped green chillies(optional)
Salt to taste
1 teaspoon chaat masala
Juice of 1 lemon

Directions

Step-1

In a bowl, add the chickpeas, kidney beans, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, coriander leaves, cucumber and green chillies.

Step-2

Next add the salt, chaat masala and lemon juice to season the salad. Toss to mix and taste to adjust the seasoning.

Tips & Variations

  1. I have boiled the kidney beans in the pressure cooker for 3-4 whistles. Soak the kidney beans in 2-3 cups water for 6-8 hours or even overnight before boiling. You can also use tinned kidney beans too as they are already boiled.
  2. I have boiled the chickpeas in the pressure cooker for 4-5 whistles. Soak the chana in 2-3 cups water for 6-8 hours or even overnight before boiling. You can also use tinned chickpeas as they are already boiled.
  3. You can add other vegetables like carrot, pepper, radish and beetroot.
  4. You can add other herbs like mint leaves, parsley and oregano to flavour the salad.
  5. Pitted olives taste great in this recipe too.
  6. You can add 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil too while seasoning.
